Biography

Mahia Rahman is a rising force in international law and human rights advocacy, having recently graduated with an LL.B. (Hons.) from BRAC University School of Law. As National Champion of the 2025 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition — Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds, Mahia went on to represent Bangladesh at the White & Case International Rounds in Washington, D.C., beating out 44 competing teams along the way.

Her advocacy credentials are matched by a research portfolio that spans transitional justice for the 1971 Bangladesh genocide, ICT-BD reform, indigenous rights, labour law, and post-July Revolution accountability — built through roles at Global Human Rights Defence (The Hague), the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), and the Open Society University Network. She is the Co-Founder of the Bangladesh Society of International Law (BSIL), she has led editorial work for the Cambridge International Law Journal Symposium on the July Revolution, secured BSIL's participation at UNFCCC COP30, and organised international conferences, webinars, and a summer school with leading scholars. Mahia's writing appears in forthcoming Springer book chapters on climate-resilient agriculture and crimes against humanity, alongside published research with Global Human Rights Defence and BLAST.

A two-time Best Mentor awardee at BRAC University, she has also taken her expertise on the road — training the next generation of advocates through mooting workshops at the University of Rajshahi, NILS Chittagong, and beyond.
